The George Tavern

I love the Selby, they have some great interior shots. The whole website is supposed to showcase creative interiors of everyday people, although it is starting to get 'mortally hip' - people who are just so cool and sharp they cut the air just by standing in it. Which you know, is quite uncool and boring in my world.

Never-the-less, I am exceedingly jealous of the artist who runs a pub- not just any pub, a listed Georgian ramshackle thing in the East End of London.

Artist, pub, Georgian, ramshackle, London, East End...these are all keywords of awesome to me. My Grandmother was born and raised in the East End (Millwall, to be exact) so I have a kind of affinity for the place. And there's something about The Spitalfields.

I almost went in partnership with a friend once to buy a pub, about 6 years ago. Our being massively poor was a bit of a hindrance. It's still on the to-do list!

oh, this is so awesome! i wish i could run a place like this with you! i fear that all the day to day running of it would make us sad though. i think we need to the interiour designers of places like this-find all the old hidden gems and bring them back out! and, it is so weird as i have been thinking about my ex(well, i think about him constantly still) and specially his gran. she and his grandfather owned a pub/inn called "the George" that was next to the cemetery of the beautiful little church next door. it was a perfect situation for years-you went to church and saw all your friends, then took the path and and put flowers on your deceased loved ones graves, and then met everyone back at the pub for a lovely sunday! i have been wanting to art about a lady poised for a portrait in from of the george. and, i hope you find one to decorate!

I love it. I don't know what it is about decaying stuff that seduces me...

My brother-in-law is from the East end. He played football for Millwall as a youngster before he went on to Manchester United and stardom!!

Cheers, colette

The first two pictures look exactly like I imagine the attic where Lucy Snowe from Charlotte Bronte's Villette shuts herself in to speed-learn her lines for a play!
